Accomplishment

Many of my early thoughts about this topic were: "Take THAT everyone that ever thought my husband was too much of a goof-off to ever amount to anything!"

But I decided to think deeper about my feelings on this topic. What I came up with was: No one else matters, this is all about me and my overwhelming feelings of wifely pride for Jeremy's great accomplishment.


Jeremy's book is finished. He defended, made edits and uploaded his final copy. And in one more day he gets to wear a goofy-sleeved robe, a goofier hood, and a (rather appropriately) dirt-brown tassel atop his mortarboard.

I won't carry on about the specifics of Jeremy's thesis, but it focused around the idea that as a society we are disconnected from our food and that through the creation of edible landscapes (like on public property that already is watered and maintained on a regular basis) we could bring food production back closer to the urban and suburban population with countless potential societal benefits.

The interesting thing was how amazing it was for me to watch his project develop and progress over the last year since he first started seriously working on it. It really was an incredible process.

With the completion of his book I also had reaffirmed what a great match Jeremy and I are for each other.

Jeremy has an entirely unrestrained creative and artistic mind.


Seriously, who draws comic strips in their Master's thesis? Well Jeremy does, and the crazy thing is--it works! It flows, it helps his process make sense, and it's visually engaging.

Now I've seen a Master's thesis or two in my time. Really thick books full of words. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good book, but I wasn't begging to dig through my friend's marriage and family therapy thesis. Jeremy's project though--it excites me. It's fun to look through.


It speaks to me.

I do like to think of myself as a creative person as well, so I love that we can understand each other and appreciate each other. I value his work and his profession on another level, besides just the fact that it will possibly maybe someday far in the future provide for the monetary needs of our family.

I can't believe our three years are over. We did it. And if I do say so myself, I think we both have a lot to be proud of ourselves for accomplishing and/or enduring.


Now if only we knew what the next three years held in store!
